Overview

This specialisation will equip you with the skills in language, translation and intercultural competence required to work in bilingual English and Chinese business and professional environments. You will develop your bilingual language proficiency thus broadening your career opportunities. The Chinese business translation units focus on developing bilingual skills for use in business and commerce contexts, including the production and translation of formal business texts. The Chinese translation for professional purposes units focus on the application of these skills across a wider range of professional settings and the creation and translation of a broad range of professional texts.

You must demonstrate language proficiency at advanced level to enrol in any units within this specialisation. Admission into the specialisation units is subject to one of the following:

You must have completed the relevant prerequisite unit(s) at the appropriate level or demonstrate an equivalent level of language proficiency as determined by the Faculty.

If you have not met the prerequisite unit requirements, you must complete the language proficiency test below:

If you have studied Chinese in a Chinese-speaking region (e.g. China, Taiwan, Macau) to Year 10 equivalent or above, or have completed VCE Chinese First Language Units 3 and 4, you are not required to sit the proficiency-related sections of the entry test. Click on the test link above and enter information about your language background and you will be granted permission to enrol by the Unit Coordinator.

If you have previously completed the equivalent Chinese translation units at Level 2 or Level 3 at Monash, you are not permitted to retake these units at Level 5. As a result, you would not be eligible to select this specialisation. Please refer to the prohibition rules for each unit for further details.
