Mathematical foundations of econometrics delivers deep theoretical and computational training to underpin high-level statistical modelling and economic forecasting. The major combines advanced econometrics with linear algebra, calculus, statistical inference theory together with applications using computational methods. You will develop superior critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, and complex problem-solving skills, while developing strong ethical awareness of the risks associated with big data and AI systems. This major prepares you for a career as a quantitative analyst, econometrician, and doctoral-level economic researcher.

Rules
You must complete 48 credit points comprising;
- 30 credit points of core units; and
- 18 credit points of specified discipline units.
Core units30 credit points
- at least one of ETC3410 or ETC3450 (6 credit points); and
- the remaining units listed below (24 credit points).
Notes:
- You may complete both ETC3410 and ETC3450. If you choose to complete both units, you will only need to complete 12 credit points from the specified discipline units.
- If you are enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science double degree and are completing the Mathematical Statistics major, you do not need to complete ETC2520. You must select any Level 2 unit from the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics or the School of Mathematical Sciences to meet the required credit points.
- If you are enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Actuarial Science double degree, you do not need to complete ETC2440. You must complete both ETC3410 and ETC3450 listed in the core units.
