Overview

This is a joint PhD program between Monash University and the University of Warwick.

You will undertake your doctoral studies through a collaborative arrangement between Monash University and the University of Warwick. At the core of this program is the completion of a substantial research thesis on an agreed topic under the guidance of supervisors from both Monash and Warwick. Your research training will also be further enhanced by professional development activities designed to support you in your academic and professional development as per the program you are enrolled into.

Upon completion of this joint PhD program, you will be able to demonstrate that you have successfully designed and executed a research project that makes an original and substantial contribution to your discipline. In your research journey, you will have also acquired the necessary skills and professional attributes to make an immediate and enduring impact on academia, industry, government, or community.

    Successful completion of the program will signify that the holder has completed a course of postgraduate training in research under proper academic supervision and has submitted a thesis that the examiners have declared to be a significant contribution to knowledge and which demonstrates the student's capacity to carry out independent original research.

Entry requirements

English language

Sound English language skills are required for academic programs at Monash University. Full documentary evidence in support of English Language Proficiency (ELP) must be submitted with applications for admission and scholarship. Monash University reserves the right to seek further documentary evidence of ELP.

If an applicant's first language is not English (i.e. originate from a country where English is not the official primary language), the ELP must be satisfied in at least one of the following ways:

Language of Instruction

Successful completion of a course of tertiary studies within the last five years, of at least two years' duration, and entirely taught and formally assessed in English, from either:

  • one of Monash University approved English language countries
  • any Higher Education institution for which English is the only language of instruction, as confirmed in the World Higher Education database(WHED).
  • Monash University's Malaysia or South Africa campus, or an equivalent Malaysian tertiary education campus recognised by Monash University.
  • Successful completion of a two-year Monash University-Southeast University Double Masters coursework course.

English Language Test

English language test must be taken at an official test centre and within two years of the proposed course commencement date.

  • IELTS (Academic English Only) - 6.5 overall (no band less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL (paper-based) - 550+, TWE 4.5
  • TOEFL (internet-based) - 79 + Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18 & Writing 21
  • Pearson Test of Academic English 58 +, communicative score 50
  • Cambridge English (and Linguaskill) - 176 + no skill below 169
