Master of International Relations and Master of Journalism

A6011

Overview

This is a double degree course leading to two master's degrees: the Master of International Relations and the Master of Journalism. Our world is being shaped by big questions about global justice, war, peace, social movements and inter-state relations. These questions help define what this double degree course is all about. In short, this course offers you a window into the diverse and dynamic world of politics in the 21st century. This course provides an entry-level qualification for a professional journalism career, and a mid-career course for working journalists seeking to extend their expertise and refresh the intellectual basis of their practice. The journalism component is designed to ensure you will make an excellent contribution to their profession using a full range of media technologies and the course has a particular focus on public interest and investigative journalism.

Alongside a suite of core units covering key issues in International Relations, you will have the opportunity to curate your learning towards your own interests and career pathway by selecting units from key international relations specialist knowledge areas including:  Global business and management, Global justice and development, and Global security.

This course provides you with a comprehensive knowledge of international affairs, grounded in the key fundamental debates framing global politics and driven by in-depth empirical analysis. Through this, you will be able to make sense of the complexity of global politics by providing the analytical perspectives and skills needed to see both the 'bigger picture' and comprehend detailed aspects of specific issues.

Journalism studies focuses on finding the truth and telling the story and plays a crucial role in scrutinising and holding to account those in power and influence.

Graduates have also found careers in news media, and have become young entrepreneurs establishing their own firms both in Australia and abroad.
