Overview

Modern organisations, whether big or small, for-profit or not-for-profit, rely on digital technology and information systems to ensure they operate in a financially, environmentally, and socially sustainable manner. This double degree in Digital Business and Information Technology gives you the opportunity to study complementary areas that provide you with a depth of study across the digital business and information technology disciplines and tailor your degree to increase your employability. This double degree gives you the skills to apply digital business principles and knowledge across the information technology sector or assist organisations to digitally transform and implement new technological advances.

The Information Technology degree focuses on the application of computer-based technologies and systems to meet individual and organisational information needs, enabling you to gain the knowledge and skills needed to use information technology effectively and to use, develop and manage information technology-based systems. The Digital Business degree will provide you with expertise in areas including business intelligence, digital disruption, strategic utilisation of artificial intelligence, and the adoption of emerging technologies, that will allow you to act as a catalyst for digital transformation within organisations, industries, and across industries.

You must complete 192 credit points, of which 96 credit points are from the Bachelor of Digital Business (including all the requirements in Parts A and B for the single degree) and 96 credit points from the Bachelor of Information Technology (including all the requirements in Parts A and B for the single degree).

You can enrich your degree to hone your academic and professional skills with a range of Flagship Rich Educational Experiences (FREE), including the Research, Experimentation and Discovery, and the Monash Innovation Guarantee . These flagship rich educational experience units may be credited in place of your replacement units if approved by the faculty.
Digital Business component96 credit points
You must complete 96 credit points, including all of the requirements in Parts A and B, for the Bachelor of Digital Business
Information Technology component96 credit points
You must complete 96 credit points, including all of the requirements in Parts A and B, for the Bachelor of Information Technology and no more than 36 credit points can be completed at Level 1.

If you choose to major in Business information systems then you are exempted from FIT1006 and must replace it with a FIT Level 3 elective. This is because you will complete a level 1 statistics unit in the Business side of your degree (ETC1000 or ETF1100).

Digital Business

B2049 Bachelor of Digital Business is a specialist course, structured in three parts. In the double degree course you complete:

Part A. Core studies

These units will develop your capacity as a critical, creative and ethical professional. With an emphasis on decision-making and the management of digitalisation within organisations, you will be proficient in utilising your extensive knowledge of digital business to formulate solutions for business challenges.

Part B. Discipline studies

These additional units will allow you to delve deeper into areas of interest. The units present an avenue for you to enhance your expertise and understanding within a distinct functional domain, thus providing a comprehensive insight into the implementation of digitalisation tailored to specific business functions. Some units are highly immersive and offer you the opportunity to leverage digital skills to address societal or business problems.

Information Technology

C2000 Bachelor of Information Technology course is a comprehensive course structured in three equal parts, in the double degree you complete: 

Part A. Specified studies

This will provide you with foundation skills and knowledge for your IT education and ensure a breadth of understanding of IT and its applications in organisations and society.

Part B. Major studies

This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise in one area of information technology. You will develop the practical and theoretical skills and knowledge in your chosen major needed to successfully plan, develop, implement and evaluate information products and systems.

You must complete 192 credit points, of which 96 credit points are from the Bachelor of Digital Business (including all the requirements in Parts A and B for the single degree) and 96 credit points from the Bachelor of Information Technology (including all the requirements in Parts A and B for the single degree).

You must complete 96 credit points, including all of the requirements in Parts A and B, for the Bachelor of Information Technology and no more than 36 credit points can be completed at Level 1.

All applicants must satisfy the equivalence of the VCE subject prerequisites.

VET Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma graduates:

Applicants will require a minimum of 60% average to be considered for selection. Preference will be given to applicants whose prior studies are related the the course. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not meet the admission requirements. 

Monash College entry requirements:

Diploma of Business (Business stream) Part 2 average: 60%
Monash University Foundation Year average: 70%

Higher Education studies:

Applicants will require a minimum 60% average to be considered for selection. Preference will be given to applicants whose prior studies are related to the course. A minimum of two single units must be completed in order to meet minimum admission requirements.

English language

Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test.
