In this online course you will demonstrate skills in the ways data and analytics can support managerial decision making. You will learn key concepts and frameworks that enable the responsible use of data, recognising the unique limits of when and how data should be used to enhance organisational performance. You will also gain skills in the use of modern data analysis tools, such as PowerBI and RStudio, and demonstrate skills in the design of analytics projects. With substantial flexibility in the electives available, the Masters of Managerial Analytics will allow you to direct your learning to meet your professional goals – going deeper to develop more technical analytics skills, going broader to apply analytics across sectors, or going outside analytics to extend your knowledge in complementary disciplines such as project management.

- If you are admitted at entry Level 1 you complete 72 credit points, comprising Part A, Part B and Part C.
- If you are admitted at entry Level 2 you complete 48 credit points, comprising Part B, and Part C.
Part A. Core studies24 credit points

You must complete one of the following Industry project units (6 credit points) and you must complete five units (30 credit points) from across Monash Online programs at Level 5.

This course is structured in three parts. Part A. Core studies, Part B. Discipline studies and Part C. Application Studies

Part A. Core studies

These are designed to provide you with a foundational knowledge of each subject area.

Part B. Discipline studies

The focus of these studies is to develop your expertise in analytics and provide the knowledge and skills needed for the capacity to work and communicate this knowledge across the borders of context or discipline.

Part C. Application studies

The focus of these studies is professional and scholarly work that can contribute to a portfolio of professional development.

Master's entry points

Depending on prior qualifications you may receive entry level credit (a form of block credit) which determines your point of entry to the course:

  • If you are admitted at entry level 1 you complete 72 credit points, comprising Part A, Part B and Part C.
  • If you are admitted at entry level 2 you complete 48 credit points, comprising Part B, and Part C.

Units are 6 credit points unless otherwise stated.

This course is structured in three parts. Part A. Foundation Studies (24 credit points) Part B. Analytics methods (12 credit points) and Part C. Application Studies (36 credit points).

Part A. Core studies (24 credit points)

You must complete the following four units (24 credit points):

  • LEO5301 Decision making for managers
  • LEO5302 Data and analytics in organisations and society
  • LEO5303 Data analytics and insights generation
  • LEO5304 Reporting for strategy and change

Part B.  Discipline studies (12 credit points)

You must complete any two units (12 credit points) from the following:

  • LEO5310 Data exploration, visualisation, and information design
  • LEO5311 Quantitative analysis and data modelling
  • LEO5312 Data reporting, presentation, and dashboards

Part C. Application studies (36 credit points)

You must complete one of the following units (6 credit points)

  • LEO5113 Industry challenge
  • LEO5114 Global challenge

and you must complete five units (30 credit points) from across Monash Online programs at Level 5.

Entry requirements

English language

Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
