Overview

The Master of Global Business is a multi-disciplinary program that advances your knowledge of business and the global environment in which it operates. This Master’s program provides you not only with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic economic, political and social forces that affect and impact upon global business, but also with the skill set required to function and operate in a global environment. 

The Master of Global Business is designed to build upon your work experience and your undergraduate credentials by further developing and strengthening your business skills and acumen. This program advances your ability to address the global issues and challenges faced by business and society by improving your ability to critically analyse, problem solve and develop solutions. These skills are further enhanced and developed through an appreciation of the global context in which business operates and how it deals with issues of a geo-political nature, business-government relations, trade and its governance, sustainable global supply  chains,  social responsibility and intercultural communication.  

The Master of Global Business, is a coursework program that ultimately looks to produce graduates with a comprehensive and multi-disciplined perspective of global business, that enables them to not only better understand the contemporary global environment in which business operates but just as importantly create and produce innovative solutions for the business, professional, social and public policy communities which they serve

Course structure

Part A. Mastery knowledge48 credit points
Part B. Electives24 credit points
You must complete four units (24 credit points) of electives at either Level 4 or 5 from units not already completed in Part A.b, or from the Faculty of Business and Economics or across the University as long as you have met the prerequisites and there are no restrictions on enrolling in the units. To complete units offered at an alternative campus please consult with your Course Director.

The course is structured in two parts. Part A. Mastery knowledge and Part B. Electives  

Part A. Mastery knowledge

The focus of these studies is to develop your knowledge and skills as a critical and creative professional who can apply their understanding and knowledge of the global business and politics environments in order to contribute to solutions that address contemporary global issues

Part B. Electives

The focus of these studies is to contribute to a portfolio of professional development that enables you to expand your knowledge and skills, in the realm of global business, politics, trade and related disciplines.

Master's entry points

Depending on prior qualifications you may receive entry level credit (a form of block credit) which determines your point of entry to the course:

  • If you are admitted at entry level 1 you complete 72 credit points, comprising Part A and Part B
  • If you are admitted at entry level 2 you complete 48 credit points, comprising Part A

Note: Students eligible for credit for prior studies may elect not to receive the credit and complete one of the higher credit-point options.

  • MGI5691 Global sustainable operations and supply chain management
  • MGI5730 International trade policy*
  • MGI5800 Global business
  • MGI5911 Geo-politics and business globalisation
  • MGI5940 Intercultural communication and negotiation 

*Capstone unit

b. Additional Mastery knowledge units

You must complete two units (12 credit points) from any listed below:

  • ATI5020 Policy advocacy and communication
  • ATI5069 Field studies in urban policy and governance (winter offering)
  • ATI5081 Comparative Health Policy and Politics
  • ATI5083 Digital technology and public policy
  • ATI5100 Social impact lab 
  • ATI5236 Global policy challenge (12cp)
  • ATI5430 Sustainability and the green economy
  • BEI5412 Applied research project: Social impact lab
  • ECI5590 Poverty inequality and opportunity
  • PHI5252 Global health care delivery: principles and challenges

Part B. Electives (24 credit points)

Entry requirements

English language

Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
