The Graduate Certificate of Computer Science will develop core knowledge in computer science and you will be able to keep up with advances in the area. It provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable you to deal effectively with issues involving the application of computer science in various domains.
These studies are intended for students whose previous qualification is not in a cognate field, and builds on existing professional work experience

The course comprises 24 points.
You must complete the following units :
- ITO4131 Java programming
- ITO4132 Introduction to databases
- ITO4133 Introduction to Python
- ITO4137 Architecture and networks
Learning outcomes
These course outcomes are aligned with the Australian Qualifications Framework and Monash Graduate Attributes.
Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

analyse and review theories and techniques from the field of computer science;

apply problem solving skills and theoretical knowledge to the design and construction of innovative solutions in at least one of the following areas: artificial intelligence, cybersecurity or software engineering;

assess and apply industry standard tools and techniques for building software systems;

critically evaluate, document and communicate ethical, legal and social issues affecting the use of technologies;
- 5
communicate effectively with stakeholders within and outside the computing industry.
Entry requirements
English language
Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test

Progression to further studies
Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate of Computer Science (C4009) may be eligible for admission at entry point 2 into either the Graduate Diploma of Computer Science (C5008) or the Master of Computer Science (C6008).
