Overview

The Graduate Certificate of Cybersecurity prepares you for work in the cybersecurity industry at an entry level, providing you with the fundamental knowledge, information and skills in cybersecurity and blockchain. This new course will provide you with the opportunity to upskill or implement a career change, as well as providing a pathway to further study in the Master of Cybersecurity.

Course structure

The handbook's description of this structure

The course comprises 24 credit points which includes a 6 credit point core Cybersecurity unit and 18 credit points of elective Cybersecurity units.

You must complete the following unit (6 points):

  • ITO5163 Introduction to cryptography for cybersecurity

and complete three units (18 points) from the following:

  • ITO5003 Software security
  • ITO5037 Network security
  • ITO5129 Cyber operations
  • ITO5225 Cloud computing and security

Learning outcomes

These course outcomes are aligned with the Australian Qualifications Framework and Monash Graduate Attributes.

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

    analyse, critically review and synthesise theories and techniques from the field of cybersecurity;

  2. 2

    apply problem solving skills and theoretical knowledge to the design and construction of innovative solutions in the area of cybersecurity;

  3. 3

    systematically evaluate the application of theories and techniques from the field of cybersecurity;

  4. 4

    critically evaluate, document and communicate ethical, legal and social issues affecting the use of technologies;

  5. 5

    evaluate and respond to social and ethical issues arising from the application of cybersecurity technologies in the global economy.

Entry requirements

English language

Monash Level A, that is:  IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test.
