Overview
The Graduate Diploma of Computer Science will develop core knowledge in computer science and you will be able to keep up with advances in the area, with an introduction to an area of your choice: artificial intelligence, cybersecurity or software engineering, to the level of a computing professional. It provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable you to deal effectively with advanced issues involving the application of computer science in various domains.

This course is structured in two parts: Part A. Core studies and Part B. Specialist studies
Part A. Core studies (36 points)
These studies will provide an orientation and draw on best practices within the broad field of computer science practice and research. You will gain a critical understanding of theoretical and practical issues related to computer science. Your studies will focus on fundamentals, core knowledge as well as application in your chosen specialisation.
Part B. Specialist studies (12 points)
The focus of these studies is specialising in the areas of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity or software engineering.
The course comprises 48 points structured into two parts:
- Part A: Core studies (36 points)
- Part B: Specialist studies (12 points)
Units are 6 credit points unless otherwise stated.

You must complete:

Part B: Specialist studies (12 points)
You must complete two units from one of the unit sets below:

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

critically evaluate, document and communicate ethical, legal and social issues affecting the use of technologies;

evaluate and respond to social and ethical issues arising from the application of computer science technologies in the global economy;

communicate effectively with stakeholders within and outside the computing industry.
Entry requirements
English language
Monash minimum: Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
