Master of Business Information Systems

Master of Business Information Systems is structured in three parts, Part A. Foundation studies, Part B. Core studies and Part C. Applied studies. In the double degree course you complete: 

Part A. Foundation studies 

These units provide an introduction to information systems and business concepts, including system design and analysis as applied in professional practice. You will learn basic software programming and development concepts and database technology.

These units are intended for students whose previous qualification is not in a cognate field.

Part B. Core studies 

These units draw on best practices within business information systems (BIS) to gain critical understanding of the theories and practice relating to responsible digitalisation, digital transformation, BIS strategy, governance and management, ethical BIS innovation and design, business intelligence and analytics, project management, as well as a choice of data and archive, and business process and decision-making behaviour..

Part C. Applied studies

The focus of these studies is professional or scholarly work in the broad realm of business information systems.

Master of Global Business

The Master of Global Business is structured in two parts, Part A. Core studies, Part B. Capstone studies and Part C. Electives. In the double degree course you complete:

Part A. Core studies

The focus of these studies is to develop your knowledge and skills as a critical and creative professional who can apply their understanding and knowledge of the global business and politics environments in order to contribute to solutions that address contemporary global issues.

Master’s entry points

Depending on prior qualifications you may receive entry level credit which determines your point of entry to the course:

  • If you are admitted at entry level 1, you complete 120 credit points, comprising Part A, Part B. and Part C. of the Master of Business Information Systems and Part A. of the Master of Global Business.
  • If you are admitted at entry level 2, you complete 96 credit points, comprising Part B and Part C. of the Master of Business Information Systems and Part A. of the Master of Global Business.

Note: If you are eligible for credit for prior studies you may elect not to receive the credit and complete the higher credit-point option.

The Master of Business Information Systems comprises 84 points structured into three parts, Part A. Foundation studies (24 points), Part B. Core studies (42 points) and Part C. Applied studies (18 points). 

Part A. Foundation studies (24 points)

You must complete:

  • FIT9132 Introduction to databases
  • FIT9136 Introduction to Python programming
  • FIT9138 Information systems analysis, design and systems thinking

Part B. Core studies (42 points)

You must complete six units (36 points):

  • FIT5057 Project management
  • FIT5125 IT research methods
  • FIT5233 Digital transformation, strategy and governance
  • FIT5234 Advanced BIS analysis and design
  • FIT5235 Business intelligence and analytics
  • FIT5237 Responsible digitalisation

and one unit (6 points) selected from:

  • FIT5094 Evolutionary decision support
  • FIT5206 Digital continuity

  • FIT5236 Enterprise applications and architecture

Part C. Applied studies (18 points)

The Master of Global Business comprises 36 points.

  • BTF5905  Global trade governance

  • MGF5911 Geo-politics and business globalisation
  • MGF5940 Intercultural communication and negotiation
