The Graduate Certificate of Laws is designed to let you advance your skills and knowledge of developments in the principles, practice, and scholarship of one or more areas of law. You can focus on a specialised area or select from a broad range of electives for professional practice.

You will investigate contemporary issues in law, practice and scholarship, and evaluate complex legal issues from theoretical, global and interdisciplinary perspectives.

You can choose from the full range of Monash Law's postgraduate program, enabling you to individually tailor your studies to suit your interests and professional needs.

The course consists of four units. You can choose units from the full range of Monash Law's postgraduate electives, enabling you to individually tailor your studies to suit your interests and professional needs.

You must complete four units (24 points), which can be taken from any one or more of the specialisations listed below.

  • Transnational Economic Regulation
  • Technology and Innovation
  • Global Society and Human Rights
  • Public Sector Governance and Regulation
  • Dispute Resolution
  • Labour and Employment Law
  • Criminal Law and Forensics
  • Health Law and Community

Units are 6 point unless otherwise stated.

Note: Students with a law degree from a non-Australian jurisdiction must complete LAW5081 Australian legal process and research.

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

Entry requirements

English language

Monash Level A, that is:  IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
