Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Health Promotion builds knowledge of key principles in public health. This course will develop practical epidemiological and data analysis skills, as well as the capacity to apply them in public health contexts. Alongside core studies, there will be the opportunity to explore current public health challenges and the concepts of health promotion and program evaluation

The course comprises 24 credit points structured into four units.

Students must complete the following four units (24 points):

  • MPH5305 Epidemiology: concepts and applications
  • MPH5302 Biostatistics: concepts and applications
  • MPH5313 Foundations of public health
  • MPH5306 Foundations of health promotion

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

    apply public health related knowledge and skills to address a range of public health problems

    access and understand the origin, availability and optimal use of major data and information resources to describe and analyse the health of populations

  3. 3

    design, develop and manage health promotion and disease prevention strategies to reduce the impact of health problems within the community

    conduct an evaluation of public health programs

  5. 5

    assess the influence and risk of determinants of health and factors on health

  6. 6

    describe key socio-demographic trends and major public health determinants and inequalities

Entry requirements

English language

Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
