Diploma of Business

U0603

Overview

The Diploma of Business is your first step towards completing your Monash Business or Commerce related degree. You’ll learn how to work independently, think critically and make analytical decisions, while being introduced to the business concepts and theory you'll need for University.

You can choose your area of interest from day one – better preparing you for your chosen Monash bachelor degree. There are two streams to choose between:

Business stream – provides you with the foundational knowledge and skills you need to progress to a Bachelor of Business, where you will have the flexibility and opportunity to develop broad business knowledge as well as specialised expertise in one or two chosen areas of business practice.  Alternatively, if you have a specific area of interest, this stream also provides the opportunity to progress to an specialised business degree, for example accounting, marketing, digital business or banking and finance degree.

Commerce stream – requires a higher level of mathematics and leads to the Bachelor of Commerce where you can study in areas such as economics, finance, actuarial studies and accounting.

In part 2 of this Diploma you’ll study the subjects equivalent to first-year University students and develop your specialist knowledge of business or commerce.

In the Diploma of Business, you can also select to undertake the Education stream, which upon completion allows you to progress to the Bachelor of Education (Honours) and Bachelor of Business double degree. During your studies in part 2, you will complete the same number of units as a single discipline diploma. You'll complete two education studies units and 10 days of professional work placement as part of your diploma.
