The Diploma of Engineering will prepare you for success in your Monash Engineering degree.

In the first year of this course you will learn about the maths and science theory and skills you will need for University. In the second year, you will study the same subjects as first-year University students and develop your specialist knowledge of engineering and the practical skills you will need for University. Students will be able to select from one of the following specialisations: 

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering 
  • Civil Engineering 
  • Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering

Course structure

Students who commenced in Trimesters 1 and 2

Part 1. Foundation knowledge

48 credit points
a) You must complete the following seven units (42 credit points):

MCD1180 Introductory Physics
MCD1700 Introductory Mathematics
MCD1170 Introductory Chemistry
MCD1520 Academic Communication
MCD1200 Physics A
MCD1750 Intermediate Mathematics
MCD1470 Engineering Practice

b) You must complete one of the following elective units (6 credit points):

MCD1190 Chemistry A^
MCD1710 Introductory Biology^

^ If your specialisation is in Biomedical Engineering, you need to enrol in MCD1710 Introductory Biology. For all other engineering specialisations, you need to enrol in MCD1190 Chemistry A.

Part 2. Discipline knowledge

48 credit points
You must complete the units listed for your chosen discipline stream that aligns with your chosen specialisation in the Bachelor of Engineering destination degree.

This course is structured in two parts Part 1. Foundation knowledge and Part 2. Discipline knowledge.

Part 1. Foundation knowledge

These units will provide you with the foundational maths and science theory and practical skills you’ll need for University and to progress to your discipline studies.

Part 2. Discipline knowledge

These units are equivalent to first-year University units and will provide you with discipline specific knowledge in engineering to enable progression to your destination bachelor degree.

The course comprises 96 points structured in two parts: Parts 1. Foundation knowledge (48 points) and Part 2. Discipline knowledge (48 points).

Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated.

Part 1: Foundation knowledge (48 points) (Trimester 1 and 2 students)
