Overview
This unit is related to the information systems in managing the creation, storage, recall, and dissemination of reports. Digital accounting involves collecting information as evidence for accountability, transparency, compliance with regulations and the use of information for decision making. This unit will explore the issues and challenges with managing and using several technologies such as cloud computing, robotic process automation, data analytics and artificial intelligence.

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

examine the role and design of digital accounting systems in analysing and providing decision support to managers

identify and make recommendations on solving or mitigating various issues and challenges in the digital accounting systems

apply critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills to individual and / or group activities dealing with digital accounting systems and demonstrate in an individual summative assessment task the acquisition of a comprehensive understanding of the topics covered by ACM5260.

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. This unit includes case-based teaching, where you apply your knowledge and engage in analytical and reflective thinking to solve complex contextual scenarios. This unit includes problem-based learning approaches, where you engage in research, integrate theory and practice and apply knowledge and skills to develop viable solutions in response to a problem or set of problems.
