PREREQUISITE: Enrolment in the Bachelor of Applied Data Science Advanced (Honours) and completion of 144 credit points of study.
Overview
This unit will introduce you to current topical research in Data Science applications and methods. Through weekly expert seminars, it will provide broad coverage of the issues, concepts, methods and techniques associated with data science research. You will then develop your independent research and written communication skills through short critical reviews of topics discussed in seminars and a major essay based on one of these topics. Knowledge acquired from this unit will prepare you to conduct and communicate your own research.

The weekly workload requirements will be:
- One hour of attendance at weekly seminars and
- Approximately 11 hours per week of independent study
This unit aims to introduce topical research in Data Science to advanced students in preparation for the major project that they will complete in the second semester of the Honours year.
You will attend weekly seminars given by experts in the field, where you are introduced to research topics and provided with reading material on the topic (LO1-LO2). You will need to submit as assignments regular critical reviews of the research topics presented in the seminars (LO3-LO4). The final assessment will consist of a major essay on one particular topic from the seminars (LO3-LO4).
