Overview
The unit examines how social movements bring about political change through organisation, communication and mobilisation. The unit offers a conceptual introduction to civil society, social movements and ideologies. It considers why specific social movements emerged and how they impact on policies, culture and identity. Cases include progressive and conservative national and transnational social movements. Students are also introduced to how social movements bring about change by examining specific strategies such as civil disobedience, protests, and framing.
