Synopsis
The English language has evolved over centuries from early medieval England to become a global lingua franca, commonly adopted and adapted for communication in multilingual contexts worldwide. In this unit, you explore the English language from historical, linguistic and cultural perspectives, and address language issues involving world Englishes in multilingual societies. You will combine theoretical frameworks and practical applications, enabling you to articulate your knowledge of the English language and apply it to educational and professional contexts. This unit also enables you to examine issues of English language use and pedagogy critically, and develop theoretical and analytical skills and competence to solve real-world issues in relation to English language education and intercultural communication.
