Pandemics and social justice

In this unit you will focus on the social impacts of pandemic threats to life and their implications for global health. You will explore the politics and ethics of effective responses to pandemics with specific reference to inequity. Topics include;  historical overview of pandemics, media representations of pandemics, lived experiences of vulnerable individuals and communities, policy responses to pandemics, human rights-based approaches to pandemic threats, pandemic preparedness, and global cooperation. Through the immersive learning experience at Prato, you will interact with colleagues in workshops, field visits and dialogue with expert guest speakers. The unit will be of interest for students in sociology, anthropology, communications, international development, medicine, microbiology and public health.
