Consecutive interpreting

APG5178

Synopsis

In this unit, you will explore two components of interpreting:

  1. Theory, principles, and techniques of consecutive interpreting for formal and longer speeches (3-5 minutes). You will be introduced to sight translation as a fundamental skill.

  2. Your training will focus on interpreting across a wide array of settings that commonly occur in public service and business interpreting. These include: social topics (welfare and employment), economic topics (taxation/finance, tourism, business), and medical topics (working with GPs). You will acquire content knowledge and specialist language that relate to the contexts of these settings.
