Overview

The world-wide spread of English and the process of globalisation have led to the development of ‘world Englishes’. In this unit, students will explore world Englishes in the current transmedia world and the implications of world Englishes for intercultural communication.  There are three components in this unit: (re)framing world Englishes, English across time and space, and applied world Englishes. Specific topics include: models of world Englishes, change and variation of English varieties, current issues of world Englishes, transcultural creativity in world Englishes, world Englishes as a translanguaging practice, and the future of world Englishes.
