Synopsis
This unit explores the origin, function and value of cultural events, institutional assets, exhibitions and festivals and their relationship with the creative industries and role on the cultural economy. Taking a theoretical and practical approach it develops a methodological repertoire for understanding the direct and indirect impact of policy on cultural events, assets, exhibitions and festivals, the role of cultural intermediaries and relationship with audiences and communities of interest in placemaking and the experience economy. The unit makes use of Monash’s Melbourne/Victoria location for engagement but will also allow for fieldwork iteration (e.g. on location in another city in Australia/Overseas).
