Synopsis
This unit examines the effect of digital platforms on the media and communications industries. It will explore the transnational circulation of content, cultures, technology and profits in the contemporary media industries. The unit examines the emergence of big platform corporations that have created new centres of media power and influence. You will evaluate new and established media platforms and develop an in-depth understanding of the content producer and user cultures that have emerged alongside them.
