Synopsis

This unit considers the relevance of power and politics for shaping relationships between humans and their environments. Throughout the semester you will engage with the principles and approaches of political ecology that foreground politics and the role of capitalism in shaping environment and development. The unit introduces fundamental tool of political ecology research, such as critical chains of explanation, as well as feminist and decolonial analytical lenses for contemporary socio-environmental problems. Through examination of real-world case studies, you will apply these tools to develop sophisticated understanding of particular socio-environmental challenges.
