Field studies in urban policy and governance
ATI5069
Synopsis
This unit offers field-based perspectives on the policy and governance challenges of urban transformation in developing contexts such as Indonesia. Focusing on Greater Jakarta – one of the world's largest urban agglomerations – the unit offers you a field immersion experience and practice perspectives on the challenges of urban policy making in a diverse, complex, and multilevel governance environment. You will gain first-hand knowledge of policy problems and dilemmas faced by city administrators in critical sectors such as traffic congestion and urban transportation, waste management, and flood control. Through interactions with local governments, communities, the private sector, and CSOs involved in solving such problems, as well as visits to field sites, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the policy and governance challenges of urban transformation.
