Overview

This unit seeks to equip students with an understanding of cultural policy, developing conceptual and analytical skills for its framing, contextualised in specific social, political and economic contexts and purposes. It theorises the origin, formulation, operation and impact of policies for culture and creativity in contemporary society. The unit focusses on global, national and local policies that have nurtured the cultural and creative industries, identifying objectives for and debates about the production of value - economic and social. It examines the impact of cultural policy on historical, existing and future practices by businesses, agencies, institutions and communities of interest

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    Identify and critically evaluate conceptual, historical and contemporary issues involved in the formation of cultural policy at global, national and local level;

    Communicate effectively a breadth and depth of scholarly analysis applied to cultural policy issues in specific contexts and to a range of stakeholders.
