When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

   comprehend simple Japanese texts with hiragana, katakana and basic kanji characters;

   compose simple sentences, individually and collectively, using both handwriting and typing assisted by appropriate technological resources;

   communicate effectively in basic Japanese conversations, applying textbook grammar patterns and vocabulary, including simple greetings, self-introductions and everyday conversations;

   recognise and use hiragana and katakana characters, and approximately 60 fundamental kanji characters;

   demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity through self-reflection, comparisons and group discussions deepening cross-cultural understanding of Japanese in a global context.
