Overview
In this unit students are introduced to key concepts, approaches and methodologies in the study of gender. Students examine the impact of gender in a range of global and real-world contexts, and consider how gender intersects with other categories such as class, ethnicity and sexuality. By engaging with a variety of case studies in current affairs and popular culture, from #MeToo to women in sport and queer comedy, students learn to make visible the constructed nature of gendered identities. Students will challenge their own assumptions, relating concepts to their lived experience and building an awareness of their world through an ethical and gendered lens.
