Prerequisite: Twelve credit points of first-year Arts units.

Overview

This unit explores the context of the Vietnam War, the histories of North and South Vietnam and the role of their allies across the ideological divide. Lectures will cover the involvement of the USA and that of the USSR and the PRC in the war. The role of Australia in the war and those of the media and anti-war movements will be featured. The aftermath of the war, the exodus of Vietnamese refugees, and issues of remembrance and commemoration will also be explored.
