Synopsis
In this unit, you will focus on intimate relationships and the complexities of contemporary love and changing families. You will examine theoretical perspectives on personal life and put diversities of contemporary relationships and families in demographic, historical and cultural context. You will analyse the social dynamics of romance, partnering and parenting, intergenerational relationships, the division of labour, relationship diversity and relationship dissolution. You will also analyse everyday experiences, popular culture and social policy, in order to understand the ways in which personal life is shaped by wider social forces.
