Synopsis
This unit explores recent sociological analyses of men and masculinity. In this unit you will develop a critical awareness of the status of men in society, be introduced to different sociological approaches to the study of men and masculinity, and discover the various cultural constructions of masculinity. Topics covered in this unit include: theoretical examinations of masculinity, representations of masculinity in media and popular culture, men's lived experiences in the everyday world, and contemporary issues such as men's health, men's sexuality, men's violence and men's rights movements.
