The unit allows you to build on the critical, analytical and linguistic skills acquired throughout the European Languages major by developing a research or translation project tailored to their disciplinary and linguistic interests.

Learning outcomes

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    identify and describe key methodological aspects of research and practice in one of the following areas:  cultural and literary studies; translation studies; applied linguistics; sociology & political science; philosophy; film & media studies; History & Art history, etc

    identify and evaluate the key resources relevant to the topic through the completion of a project research proposal, a literature review and a research diary

  3. 3

    critically analyse sources and/or data using relevant theoretical and methodological frameworks

  4. 4

    produce either a research essay; an annotated translation; or a podcast/vodcast episode plus exegesis

  5. 5

    apply the proficient or advanced knowledge of one of the following languages to research or translation: French, German, Italian, Spanish.
