Synopsis
Asia’s screen industries are among some of the most vibrant and dynamic in the world. From anime and martial arts cinema to award-winning art films, Asian cinema has attracted widespread popular and critical attention. This unit explores the unique films and television being produced from Asia: from blockbusters and remakes to short films and reality TV. Topics that may be covered include technological developments in Asia’s screen industries (from streaming to 3D and 4D formats), to new models of collaboration (co-productions and the rise of Asian film festivals). You will complete this unit with a better understanding of the diverse national and regional contexts for Asia’s burgeoning screen cultures.
