Japanese language in action
ATS3649
Synopsis
In this unit, you will complement your Japanese language learning by investigating everyday language use from a variety of analytical perspectives. You will examine examples from a range of sources and contexts to explore how Japanese is structured, used, and influenced by cognitive, social, and cultural factors. By observing and analysing actual language use, you will advance your language proficiency and your understanding of Japanese language and culture. You will approach language use through different lenses, which may include applied linguistics, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, interactional linguistics, corpus analysis, second language acquisition, and sociolinguistics. You will also conduct small research projects using different methods to examine and understand how language is used in daily interactions.
