Overview

The unit provides students with a detailed understanding of issues relating to crime, justice, human rights and the impact of geo-political (in)security issues across different jurisdictions in Asia. The unit focuses specifically on China, Hong Kong, India, Taiwan and Thailand, but also include perspectives from other countries in the region.  Students will investigate to what extent dominant Western ideas and criminological, political and legal theories and research apply in countries in the Asia-Pacific region through comparative studies. Learning directly and indirectly from experienced academics and professional practitioners such as police, crime investigation agents and NGOs from the region, students will gain knowledge on these issues, enhance their skills to engage in an internationalised world and exhibit cross-cultural competence. The unit also provide students with an opportunity to engage and learn with international students from the Asia-Pacific region in relation to these topics.
