Overview
In this capstone unit you will design and complete your own research project based on intensive, direct work with historical sources. We will explore the rich and diverse archives that are available to historians and how these sources can help us make sense of the past. Your research project can cover any historical period or place, limited only by the availability of primary and secondary materials. You will have the option to submit your research as an essay, podcast, website or some other form of communication. You will also collaborate with your peers as you present your research and assist each other in developing your projects.

This unit engages you in actively applying your knowledge, skills and attributes in interactive, collaborative and reflective activities.

Activities are often designed so that there is not one clear answer, but you need to work together to examine, analyse and make decisions to resolve the situation.
This advanced BA unit is based on the thoughtful and critical exchange of ideas in class, which in turn assumes familiarity with the readings and the (pre-recorded) lectures. From an early stage in this unit you will develop your own research interests from a preliminary proposal to a fully-fledged paper.
This unit allows you to develop your research skills by engaging in structured inquiry using a systematic approach and discipline-specific methodologies.
This unit engages you in enquiry-based learning, where you will be encouraged to use your own knowledge to develop and engage in a process of enquiry, study and research to identify areas to be investigated and an approach to doing so.
