Overview
This unit will provide advanced training in the norms, methods, key debates, and scholarly conventions of the humanities. Students will elect one of three streams: philosophy, history, or archaeology and ancient history. In the field of philosophy, students will engage with problems in philosophy of mind and cognition, political philosophy and ethics, history of philosophy and cross-cultural traditions, and metaphysics and epistemology. History students will focus on approaches and methodologies in gender, Indigenous, oral, political, social and cultural history, and the history of science and medicine. Archaeology and ancient history students will focus on theoretical approaches to the ancient world, as well as the methodology of interpreting and assessing archaeological and historical data, including material cultural evidence, archaeological reports, and texts in translation.
