Overview

In this unit, you will undertake a three-week, Melbourne-based industry experience capstone that provides structured engagement with contemporary business environments during the winter teaching period. The unit offers an alternative to traditional placements, enabling you to engage meaningfully with industry without requiring formal workplace employment.

You will participate in structured company visits and professional briefings, providing opportunities to analyse organisational practices and industry contexts, and to apply knowledge developed across your business degree. These experiences are supported by contributions from industry professionals and alumni, alongside facilitated learning sessions designed to help you integrate theory with practice.

Working in diverse teams, you will engage in collaborative learning activities that emphasise teamwork, leadership, and inclusive professional practice. The “lab” format reflects an active, applied learning environment, where you will explore, test, and refine your understanding of business practice. Learning is structured as a staged progression from exploration, through engagement, to integration and reflection.

Assessment includes an individual ePortfolio documenting your learning and capability development, an industry-focused group briefing, and a structured group reflection interview. Through these activities, you will synthesise industry insights, demonstrate professional communication, and reflect on your emerging professional identity and career direction.
