Overview
Entrepreneurship and innovation are often buzzwords, but not in this unit. This isn’t about ‘hustling’ and glitzy start-up hype. It’s about rolling up the sleeves, truly getting to explore a challenge and bringing creative ideas to life that can create value in the real world. Whether you want to establish a start-up, work in corporate innovation, or just have a really great toolkit to help you do any job better, this unit will help you.
You’re going to focus on a big, wicked challenge, coming up with an innovative solution, that could actually make a difference in the world. We have done everything we can to make this one of the most practical, hands-on units in Australia, so come in with an open mind and a willingness to learn and we’ll have a bunch of fun along the way. You might even end up finding yourself with something you want to grow beyond this semester!
This unit will provide you with entrepreneurial skills, mindsets and practical experience, enable you to think about global challenges and solutions, and be an effective critical thinker, preparing you with essential, often untaught, capabilities for the future of work.

Workload Requirements: Caulfield
This is a practice-based unit comprising of the following learning activities:
- Weekly online team-based workshops (3hrs)
- Timetabled face-to-face coaching on campus in weeks 4, 6, 10.
Each session will build on previous week's work and on the activities expected of teams in between classes.
The unit places students in 'start-up' style teams, and teams are treated like small businesses. It is expected that teams work outside of these sessions to develop their ideas and work through activities prescribed in between sessions, totalling approximately 10-12 hours per week including sessions outlined above. Independent work requirements for teams may include associated readings, assessment, out of class activities and preparation for scheduled sessions.
Workload Requirements: City (Melbourne)
Delivered in 11 active workshops this unit meets the full-semester workload requirements within an 11 week timetable. Students need to begin preparation prior to each workshop. Students who do not come prepared for each workshop will find it very difficult to keep up due to the rapid delivery timeline of the unit.
This unit provides you with the opportunity to engage in industry-based learning to incorporate professional and industry experience into your studies.
