Overview

What is the impact of financial scandals and crises on our society? What happens when lines in a capitalistic system are crossed and when capitalism seems untamed? This unit offers discussion on the past, present and future of capitalism.

The unit will cover crises and scandals in relation to institutional logics and the nature of capitalism in various countries, including the United States, China, Germany and Australia. The focus will be on the role of the capitalistic system in which crises and scandals occur and the political, economic, legal and societal changes these events initiate.

We will pay particular attention to the roles of entrepreneurs in capitalistic systems: who are entrepreneurs, how they identify and select market opportunities, and how are they able to identify and create new market opportunities and competitive advantage? Finally we will zoom in on the effects of responsible management education in business schools.
