Synopsis
This unit provides insights into the functioning of financial markets in a global context. You will learn how to analyse the balance of payments of a country, and will study how different corporate governance features around the world have an impact on financial markets. You will be introduced to the role of central banks in providing stability to financial markets. From there, you will explore how financial markets actually operate in the real world, focusing on regulation as well as how and where securities (debt, equity, and derivatives) are traded, and how various market types differ from one another in practice. Finally, you will learn about financial crises and global risk.
