Synopsis
This unit examines contemporary practice in sustainable road traffic engineering. It takes a multi-modal approach to traffic engineering, exploring how to design and manage a transport system that encourages public transport, walking and cycling. It introduces the Safe System approach to road safety, traffic impact assessment, demand management approaches, intelligent transportation systems and the management of parking. Contemporary developments in traffic engineering are explored through the lens of improving the safety and sustainability of the road network system.
