Transport planning for Asian cities
CIV4293
Synopsis
This unit examines contemporary issues in urban transport planning with a particular focus on Asian cities. The concept of sustainable transport is introduced along with the steps in the transport planning process. Emphasis is placed on the interrelationship between transport and land use planning and on the range of supply and demand-oriented approaches that can be used to enhance the sustainability of urban transport systems. Consideration is given to the role of local culture and context as a determinant of travel behaviour and the characteristics of the transport system. Analytic models employed to predict travel demand are examined along with their data needs.
