Introduction to health and physical education

Synopsis

This unit provides you with essential knowledge, skills and understandings related to the curriculum area of Health and Physical Education (HPE). With a focus on primary HPE, you will be introduced to a range of approaches including Fundamental Movement Skills, skill themes, physical literacy, game-centred approaches, experiential learning, and rhythmic and expressive movement. You will be introduced to key curriculum concepts and foundational pedagogical content knowledge and skills that will be further developed in subsequent units. You will begin to develop competency in planning for and implementing effective teaching, learning and assessment within safe and supportive HPE environments. The unit is delivered via a series of workshops that weave theory and practice throughout.
