Overview

This unit considers how to ensure all young people, regardless of ability, cultural and linguistic and religious diversity, gender, social class or sexuality, are able to enjoy and participate fully in health and physical education. At a theoretical level, the unit will introduce you to a range of theories underpinning the development of inclusive curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. You will learn how to differentiate your teaching of health and physical education to meet the specific learning needs of learners across a full range of abilities. You will be supported to develop practical strategies to engage with parents and carers as well as to consider different approaches to managing challenging behaviour amongst diverse learners. The unit comprises of theoretical and practice based learning; during practical sessions, you will have the opportunity to differentiate your health and physical education delivery to meet the learning needs of diverse participants, with a particular focus on supporting full participation of young people with a range of intellectual, physical and sensory disabilities. The practical sessions will develop strategies to support you to deliver sport and physical activity in ways that are ethical, foster participation and are challenging for all. You will be encouraged to reflect on your practice, developing skills to become advocates for inclusive delivery in your future work.
