Ethics, law and governance in learning design and technology

EDF3401

Synopsis

Learning designers need to have a fundamental understanding of the ethical and legal requirements for their work. From copyright law to the complexities of international requirements for how personal data is stored, there are a wide variety of issues to take into account when designing courses, especially for online learning. New technologies are constantly being introduced, which may have potential implications for privacy, intellectual property, and copyright requirements. You will learn about content licensing and engage in debates around integrity, such as the use of generative artificial intelligence to create content, both as learners and as content designers. This unit builds on knowledge from previous units, such as regulatory frameworks around accessibility, and together provides an opportunity for reflection and critical evaluation of the broad and complex ethical and legal considerations for learning design.
