Overview

This unit addresses physical education, health and wellbeing environments. It examines the health, wellbeing and sustainability of people, places and communities locally and globally. You will engage with a range of theoretical perspectives related to health and wellbeing. You will explore pedagogical and theoretical approaches to teaching and learning in health, physical and environmental education. Drawing on cross-disciplinary approaches, you will develop competency and confidence in providing developmentally appropriate and fundamental movement activities leading to physical education and health promotion in outdoor and indoor learning environments. The wellbeing of both teachers and learners in a variety of educational and community settings is examined.

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    Plan and implement learning experiences that focus on movement, environment and community in outdoor and indoor settings, and which cater for children of diverse backgrounds and abilities and draw on a range of effective and inclusive teaching strategies

    Explore and develop strategies for health and wellbeing for your future within the teaching profession

    Identify, evaluate and interpret a range of relevant curriculum documents and resources for teaching health and wellbeing

    Apply a variety of assessment approaches in health and physical education

    Identify and work with the concept of community and community-based resources for the development of educational sustainability.

Lectures are delivered online and provide important background to the key concepts and foundational knowledge for deeper exploration in programmed activities. You can examine concepts at your own pace and return to them at any time for ongoing reference. The online 'lecture' may include activities and discussion postings in addition to videos or readings.

Interactive workshops are provided to challenge thinking, extend conceptual understanding, solve problems, apply skills and develop competencies in successfully completing assessment tasks and enhancing professional teaching knowledge and skills. Together, the online lectures, readings and resources provide a blended approach specifically designed to deepen your learning experience. Engaging with online materials and active attendance and participation in face-to-face and Online workshops will ensure you have developed the relevant skills and knowledge to successfully complete assessment tasks in this unit.
