Overview
This unit will enable you to develop knowledge and skills in counselling groups and individual members in a group. You will understand the role and strengths of group counselling to assist clients in diverse settings, such as school, community, and rehabilitation centres. Specific topics include group dynamics and processes, group theories, therapeutic techniques for effective group counselling, identifying appropriate group members, ethical issues associated with group counselling, and cultural sensitivity to the multicultural nature of group counselling in Malaysia. You will also have opportunities to reflect on your own attributes and personal development in relation to being an effective group counsellor.

Further, you will be encouraged to deepen your understanding of topic areas through collegial discussion and debate, and by participating in activities designed to extend your understanding. This unit utilises Experiential Learning Theory as a framework.
