Overview
In this unit, you will engage in theoretical and practical explorations of issues associated with leadership in international contexts. You will explore and critique leadership challenges related to education in global, regional, national, and local environments. You will examine the role of government and non-governmental actors in relation to educational leadership in international contexts. Leadership responses to global policy shifts and discourses will be encouraged through the application of theory to real world challenges.

Learning outcomes
When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

describe and differentiate diverse perspectives on global educational policy and leadership

recognise and critically analyse the prevalent trends in global education policy and policy-making

apply knowledge and awareness of the local, national, international, and global actors and institutions engaged in educational policy-making

critically reflect on the role of global educational strategies designed for developing country contexts

demonstrate a nuanced understanding of the complex and multifaceted issues that influence educational policy-making and leadership across national and international dimensions such as gender, economics, politics, and culture

discuss, compare, and critique policy discourses related to trends in international education contexts and leadership
Workload and teaching
Minimum total expected workload equals 144 hours per semester comprising:
a. Contact hours for flexible students:
• 12 contact hours and 12 hours equivalent of online activities over the semester; or
• 24 hours equivalent of online activities over the semester*
b. Additional requirements (all students):
• independent study to meet the minimum required hours per semester.
*International students studying in Australia are not permitted to undertake this contact hour delivery mode.
